JESUS FEEDS FIVE THOUSAND  
Lk 9:10-17; Jn 6; Mt 14; Mk 6


I. Background
   A. The Disciples returned to tell Jesus what things God had done through their hands ; they were excited
   B. John the Baptizer had also just died
   C. Jesus said you have worked  and had great stress ; take time to rest and recharge with Jesus
   D. They went to a deserted place BUT the multitudes followed him like sheep without a shepherd

II. Disciples Take Time With Jesus
   A. Jesus takes them on a mountain
   B. The mood of the crowd is high expectation :
      i) John is dead - Jesus is the only one to follow
     ii) the great work of the Disciples has excited the people
      iii) they wanted to see or experience a miracle from Jesus and his disciples
   C. The day grows late - the multitude is hungry
   D. Jesus challenges his Disciples to provide food for the people
      i) Philip said we don't have enough money
      ii) with small amount of money we could only provide a small amount per person

III. The Miracle And The  Teaching Moment
   A. Jesus asked that they give him what food they had
      i) a young boy had 5 barley loaves and 2 fish
      ii) he has the multitude sit in orderly groups expecting to feed them
      iii) Jesus blessed the loaves and fish ; then he divided it and gave to the multitude
   B. Feeding Results
      i) nothing was lost - we do not waste what God gives us
      ii) there was more than enough
      iii) twelve baskets of left overs were remaining
   C. Results
      i) Disciples realized that  with Jesus they could do the impossible
      i) The multitude realized that Jesus was from God - no one could do this miracle without God
      ii) The Disciples learn a lesson in Faith and that  with Jesus they could do anything

IV. Take Homes
   A. We need to work as hard as we can for the Lord - he  must be our highest priority
   B. We need to be excited about serving the Lord but we also need rest and time to study / meditate / pray
   C. We can not look on a job as man looks at it  ; we can't do it alone ; Jesus is our WAY MAKER
   D. When Jesus blesses our efforts they will not fail
   E. We need to expect God's support for good - even though we do not know how or when
   F. A little is a lot with Jesus - God gives more and better than we expect
