CHARACTERISTICS OF GODLY FAMILIES
JOSHUA 24:15

I. Background From Past Lessons
   A. The best way to lead your family to Christ is by example and tell them what the Lord has done for you Mk 5:19
   B. We don't get our grade as a parent until our children leave home
   C. A key to being a Godly family is Mom and Dad love and submit to each other and to God Eph 5: 21
   D. God has a plan for us - we must work his plan - Jer 29

II. Characteristics Of A Godly Family
   A. Take responsibility for your lives to live under God's direction
      i) these people don't  blame things on others and circumstances
      ii) they do not worry about things they have little or no control of
      iii) Godly families live in the present
         - yesterday is a cancelled check
         - tomorrow is a promissory note
         - today is the only time we have to act in - Lk 5
         - fear keeps us from enjoying the present
         - guilt keeps us with dealing with the things of the past
   B. Do caring acts for others - Mt 25
      i) when you and your family do good for others ( not family or close friends ) you act like the Lord
      ii) Godly people do right regardless how others treat them
      iii) remember the 1 talent man was afraid and did nothing Mt 25:24
   C. Have Communication skills
      i) Good communications involve
         - having respect for yourself and other family members
         - being open and honest - no secrets
      ii) Must be able to listen to words and other communications

BRO. WAYNE MILNER announced his resignation as an Elder for the Melrose Congregation on Sunday Feb 7, 2010.  Bro. Milner stepped down as an Elder in order to deal with some major medical issues he is experiencing.  God Bless you and thank you for your years of service as an Elder for this congregation.
