STUDY OF ANGELS (Part 2)

I. Background
  A. Angels were created before the Earth  Job 38:4-7
  B. Appears to be ranked : Archangel; Cherubim (Satan was one Ezek 28:14-16) ;Seraphim; other angels
  C. angels have emotion I Pet 1:12;  do not reproduce Mt 22:30; and do not die Luke 20:36
  D. Angels can take different forms Num 22:31; Gen 18:2
  E. Man and Jesus for a brief period were a little lower than the angels  
Ps 8:4-5; Heb 2:7
  C. Satan
     i) fallen angel Rev 12:1-9; before that he was perfect  Ezek 28:15
     ii) he may have taken one third of the angels with him but Michael
defeated him  Rev 12:4 - 7
     ii) called bright and shining - may have been wisest and most beautiful

Isa 14:12
     iii) fallen angels will be sent to Hell Mt 25:41; II Pet 2:4

II. Facts About Angels
   A. Angels worship but are not to be worshipped
      i) a huge number of angels worship God around his throne   Rev 5:11-12
      ii) we are forbidden to worship angels  Col 2:18; Rev 19:10
   B. Angels rejoice in salvation but can not receive salvation Lk 15:10; I Pet 1:12
   C. Angels minister to saints in death but do not die
      i) angels carried Lazarus to Paradise Luke 16:22
      ii) probably carried Jesus to Heaven  Luke24:50-51
      iii) they do not die  Lukr 20:36
   D. Angels rescue some and provide support to others
      i) an angel rescued Peter (Acts 12) and Lot (Gen 19)
      ii) angels minister to those that inherit salvation Heb 1:14
      iii) angels provided support to the Lord but did not rescue him   Mt 4:11 ; Luke 22
   E. The Lord could command thousands of angels but never summoned one
      i) Rev 5:11 there are millions of angels at his disposal
      ii) Jesus said he could call thousands (12 legions) but did not
   F. One angel can destroy 185000 soldiers in one night but could appear to you as a stranger
      i) one angel destroyed the Syrian army in one night
      ii) a angel could be a needy stranger  Heb 13:2
