ISAAC, JACOB, AND ESAU  
Gen 26 –

I. Isaac and Rebekah
   A. Lied about his wife ; he said she was his sister  ( 26:9)
   B. God promised to bless him and his descendants ( 26:24 )
   C. He had two sons Esau and Jacob ( the trickster )
   D. Jacob the younger tricked his brother into selling his birthright
   E. Isaac told Jacob to marry a woman of his people ( 28:2)
   F. Jacob marries Leah ( he was tricked ) and Rachel
   G. Esau marries the daughter of Ishmael ( his Uncle - the other son of
Abraham ) ( 28:9)

II. Jacob And Rachel
   A. Jacob has ten sons with Leah and two handmaids but Rachel could
have no children
   B. God makes a covenant with Jacob to bless him like Abraham and Isaac ( 35:12)
   C. Rachel was blessed to deliver a son named Joseph who Jacob
loved more than all the others
   D. Two wives were constantly jealous and envious of each ; the
brothers were envious of Joseph 0

III. Joseph - Man Of God
   A. Jacob's favor of Joseph and Leah's envy of Rachel caused the
brothers to want to kill Joseph
   B. His dreams where he was above his brothers and his Father
caused them to envy him more( 37:5-11 )
   C. One day Jacob sent Joseph to check on his brothers they caught him
and threw him in a pit
   D. Before they could kill him slave traders going to Egypt came along
and they sold him into slavery
   E. They dipped his coat in blood and told Jacob he was killed by a wild
animal ( 37:17-35 )
   F. Joseph was sold to Potiphar in and became manager of his
household because God was with him ( 37-39 )
   G. Potiphar's wife wanted Joseph for sex but he refused and she had
him put in jail
   H. Joseph who was faithful to God was put in a 1) pit 2) slavery
and 3) prison

IV. Take-home
   A. God blesses sinful men that love him and want to change
   B. When God makes a promise he never forgets and will bless us when
we obey him
   C. When bad things happen to his servants God will bring good when
we stay faithful
