ABRAHAM THE MODEL OF FAITH _
Genesis 12-24

I. Background
   A. Terah took Abram ( his son ) and grandson Lot to from Ur to Haran
   B. Terah served idols - Josh 24:2
   C. Abraham married his half sister Sarai

II. God Calls Abram
   A. The Lord said leave your country to a land that I will show you - 12:1
   B. Blessings promised - 12: 13-14
      i) become a great nation
      ii) I will bless you
      iii) make your name great
      iv) you will become a blessing
      v) bless those that bless you ; curse those that curse you
      vi) in you shall all the families of the Earth be blessed
   C. And Abram departed as the Lord told him

III. Events In Abram's Life
   A. Due to a famine he and Sarai went to Egypt - he lied to save his life ( did not trust that God would save him )
   B. Sarah gave Hagar ( her handmaid ) to Abram ; their Son was Ishmael who was not the Son of Promise
   C. God now changed their names to  Abraham and Sarah
   D. In the plain of Mamre three men met Abraham ; they were served a meal . They told Abraham that within one year he would have a Son . Sarah laughed and lied when the Angels caught her
   E. Abraham prayed that God would not destroy Sodom if he could find 10 righteous souls but he could not

IV. Abraham And Isaac
   A. His Son of Promise was Isaac (Abraham was 100 years old )
   B. God told Abraham to cast out Ishmael but promised to make him a great nation
   C. God tested Abraham by telling him to offer Isaac as a sacrifice
   D. On Mount Moriah Abraham put Issac on the alter and as he was going to killed God stopped him  - " now I know that you fear God and did not withhold your only son " - 22:12

V. Take Homes
   A. Abraham served God even though his Father did not
   B. God was called Righteous because he believed God - Rom 4:3
   C. He proved his Faith by OBEDIENCE ( Heb 11:8 ) then HE knew he really believed !
