STANDING IN THE GAP

I Timothy 2:1

  I.  Intercessory prayer is when someone stands between two parties

     to plead the case of one to the other – or to stand in the gap.

II. Why do I need to stand in the gap?

     A.  God wants to help us but he wants to be asked.

           Matthew 7:7-8

     B.  Intercessory prayer makes an impression.

          1.  When I pray for someone else it affects him.

          2.  When I pray to God it affects him.

          3.  When I pray for others it affects me.

III. Intercessory prayer is amazing.

     A.  It changes us.

     B.  It changes life for us.

IV. Examples of intercessory prayer:

     A.  Moses stood in the gap for Israel . Exodus 32:7-14

     B.  Moses offered himself for Israel 's sin. Exodus 32:30-33

     C.  Moses asked God to go with Israel to keep them faithful. Exodus 33:1-14

 V.  We are told to intercede for others.

      A.  Pray for everyone. I Timothy 2:1

      B.  James 5:13-20 tells us:

           1.  If we are happy, thank God.

           2.  If we are sick the prayers of faith will cause healing.

           3.  If we have sinned we should confess our sin and pray for forgiveness.

           4.  If we want to convert others we should pray for them to find God's way.
