COMPASSION - THE GOOD SAMARITAN  
LUKE 10:25-37

  I. Story of Five People / Groups

   A. Lawyer - vs. 25-29

      1. Student of the Mosaic Law

      2. Knew the word but not its meaning

      3. Who is my neighbor?

   B. Robbers - vs. 30

      1. Robbers attacked people on the steep road

         from Jerusalem to Jericho .

      2. They beat and robbed the man but did not kill him.

   C. Priest - vs. 31

      1. Served on one of the 24 teams of priests for 2 weeks per year.

      2 .He could not touch the man; if he were dead the priest 

          would be unclean for 7 days

      3. He passed on the other side

   D. Levite - vs. 32

      1. Of the priestly tribe

      2. Not a priest but helped them

      3. He looked at the man but passed by.

   E. Good Samaritan - vs. 33-35

      1. Looked and acted

      2. He was the neighbor

  II. Lessons from the Good Samaritan

   A.  His love with compassion caused him to act.

   B.  His love caused him to touch/contact the man.

   C.  His love was delivered with care.

   D.  His love cost him a sacrifice of time and money.

  III. Take homes

   A.  Going to church doesn't make me religious.

   B.  Loving people doesn't come by obeying rules.

   C.  Love that causes compassion and action comes from being with Jesus, just as a magnet is created from another magnet.
