I. Confrontation With Sin vs. 1-4
A. Nathan's parable of the lamb - rich man stole the poor man's only lamb
B. David's self righteous response - kill the man !
C. Nathan - you are that man
II. David's Confession - vs. 13
A. "I" have sinned against the Lord
B. Ps. 51 tell in detail how David felt when he was caught
C. He was heart broken / repentant that he sinned - NOT THAT HE GOT CAUGHT
III. David's Cleansing vs. 13
A. Nathan said - the Lord has taken away your sin
B. When God sees our heart and willingness to repent he does not count the sin - Ps 32:2 , Rom 4:7-8
IV. David's Consequence vs. 14 and 7-12
A. Nathan says God forgives but David will live with the consequences
the rest of his life
B. Consequences
i. That child will die
ii. His son ( Amnon ) will rape his half sister ( Tamor )
iii. Absolom his son will kill his brother ( Amnon )
iv. Absolom will chase his Father from his kingdom before he is killed which breaks his Father's heart
V. Lessons
A. The price David paid for sin was TOO HIGH
B. The price we pay for sin is TOO HIGH
C. Thank God for his grace to restore sinners
D. Thank God for his RESTRAINING ( keep us from sin ) grace Ps 19:12-13
