MARRIAGES THAT KEEP GOING AND GOING
I. Why can't all marriages keep going?
A. Many discount the selection process. Amos 3:3, I Peter 3:7
1. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. I Corinthians 6:14-16
2. The Godly behavior of a wife can win her husband. I Peter 3:1
B. Many deceive themselves about marital perfection.
1. There is no marriage in heaven. Mark 12
2. Anyone who thinks marriage will provide total joy will be disappointed.
3. Jesus used marriage as an example to explain His love for the church.
C. Many don't work at their marriages and the marriages suffer.
1. God gives commands for each member of the family. Ephesians 5:22-23,
Colossians 3:18-19, I Peter 3:1-72. It takes hard work to make families successful and effective.
D. Many are drawn in by cultural pressure.
1. The world says that sex outside of marriage is the norm.
2. God says it will kill.
3. The truth is that 94% of married people are faithful.
4. Romans 12:1-2 warns us not to be transformed by the world.
E. Many deny their mates praise.
1. Successful marriage partners praise and affirm each other.
2. Failed homes are a joy to Satan.
II. Summary
A. If you are not married, use the selection process to choose a faithful Christian mat
B. If you are married, don't have expectations so high that they cannot be reached because only
God can supply all our needs.C. Invest time and energy toward meeting each others' needs.
D. Let God's word determine how to live your life not the culture or
popular opinion.E. Give your spouse a compliment at least once a day; your marriage
will keep going and going and going.
