Self Reliant Adults From Twixers
I. Life Is A Process Of Getting Along With Others
A. First 5 commandments deal with relation between Man and God (Ex. 20)
B. Second 5 Commandments deal with relation between Man and Man (Ex. 20)
C. Happiness determined by how we get along with others ( Mt. 5: 3-11)
II. Happy Christian Families ( Mt. 7 : 24-27 )
A. Are not defined by what happens.
B. But are defined by how they handle what happens
C. Have issues with their children like everyone else but they handle them with God's help
III. Make Sure Everyone Feels Like They Belong By :
A. Receiving attention
B. Feeling they are a part
C. Receiving required support
D. Being requested to provide support
E. These principles apply to the Family and the Church
IV. Principles In Raising Self Reliant Children In A Self Indulgent World
A. Recognize the balance of independence / self reliance and maturity
B. Show them they have talents and are capable
C. Show them they are important and the Family needs their capabilities
D. Convince them that THEY can influence their outcome
E. Teach them to be spiritually self reliant (without Mom and Dad pushing them)
i. ) they can walk away from God ( Heb 5:4-6 )
ii. ) God can keep them from walking away (Heb 5:12- 6:4 )
F. Teach them the concept of authority
G. Provide discipline ONLY when absolutely required
i. ) Discipline properly applied brings respect
ii. ) Discipline is only used to improve
iii. ) Discipline is only used for things that really matter
V. When Parents and Children Work Together With The Lord You Can Both Get Through This Very Difficult But Required Process That Results In A Self Reliant Godly Adult
