THE ROLE OF FATHERS IN THE HOME
    Ephesians 6:4

 

I.  Be the Dad - "Fathers"
      A.  God spoke directly to the fathers through the prophets for 2,500
           years.  Hebrews 1:1
      B.  Now God speaks through the Son.  Hebrews 1:1
      C.  Culture demands it.

II.  Encourage the children - "Do not exasperate them."

      A.  Don't show favoritism. (e.g. Jacob and Joseph)
      B.  Raise your children to do what they want to do, not what you
           want them to do.  Proverbs 22:6
      C.  Prioritize your life to put your wife and children ahead of your job
           and your hobbies.

III.  Nurture your children. - "Bring them up."
      A.  Nurturing children means managing their development.
      B.  Nurture a child physically, socially and spiritually.  Luke 2:52

IV. Train your children. - "In the Training"
       A.  Training means disciplining.  Hebrews 12:4-6
       B.  Discipline means love.  Hebrews 12:11-12

  V.  Teach your children in the Lord. - "Instruction in the Lord"

       A.  A parent can't instruct what he doesn't know.
       B.  "In the Lord" is more important than "In the Job."
