LESSONS FROM AN ETHIOPIAN
 
Acts 8:26-40

I.  Philip's orders
      A.  An angel of the Lord told Philip to go South toward Gaza .  Verse 26
      B.  Then the Spirit told Philip to go to the chariot.  verse 29
II.  The Ethiopian  verses 27-30
      A.  He was on a 1,200 mile journey to Jerusalem and back.
      B.  He was reading Isaiah 53:6-8.
      C.  He was the Treasurer of Queen Candace and probably a descendent of
           Sheba , the Queen of the South.
      D.  God joins the seeker, the sent one and the scriptures together.
III.  The Questions  verses 30-31
      A.  Philip asked the Ethiopian if he understood what he was reading.
      B.  The Ethiopian asked how he could understand without a guide.
IV.  The Answers  verses 34-37
      A.  Philip preached Jesus.
      B.  Philip told the Ethiopian that he could be baptized if he believed.
      C.  The Ethiopian answered "I believe Jesus is the Son of God".
V.  The Response  verses 38-40
      A.  Philip and the Ethiopian went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
      B.  The Spirit called Philip to go to Azotus to preach.
      C.  The Ethiopian went on his way rejoicing.
VI.  The Lessons
      A.  The response to belief is baptism.
      B.  The response is immediate; in no Biblical example is baptism delayed.
      C.  Baptism is for believers.
      D.  Baptism is immersion.
      E.  The gospel is for all.
      F.   Each person is important to God.
      G.  We should know the scriptures so we can respond when we get the opportunity.
