LESSONS FROM A MOTHER
Proverbs 31
I. Lessons about wine and strong drink. Verses 4-7
A. Do not drink wine or beer because you will forget God's law and your judgment will be altered.
B. People who are perishing and in anguish drink to forget their poverty and misery.
II. Care for the poor and needy. Verses 8-9
A. Speak for and protect those who cannot speak for themselves.
B. Plead the case for the poor and needy.
III. Lessons about a worthy woman.
A. Choose to give yourself to only one woman and make sure that she is worthy.
B. A husband's view of a worthy wife.
1. His heart trusts in her.
2. He praises her.
C. A child's view of a worthy mother.
1. She is called blessed.
2. The characteristics a son looks for in a wife are many of the same characteristics of his mother.
D. God's view of a worthy woman. Verse 30
1. God praises her and gives her the fruit of her labor.
2. "She hath done what she could." Mark 14
Summary:
A. Every woman should strive to be the "worthy woman" of Proverbs 31.
B. Her husband and her children should honor and praise her.
C. Long life on the earth is a promise to those who honor their mothers. Exodus 20:12
