THE RESURRECTION BRINGS HOPE

Luke 24:13-34

 

I. Jesus is the resurrection; through Him, even if we die we shall live again. John 11:25

A. We have the hope that we will live again because of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

B. We also die to sin, are buried in water and are resurrected through baptism.

II. The events on the road to Emmaus. Luke 24:13-34

A. Two men were on the road to Emmaus on a Sunday afternoon.

B. Jesus joins them but they do not recognize Him.

C. They summarize Jesus' life.

1. He was a prophet who was mighty in deeds.

2. The chief priest delivered Him to be crucified.

3. We had hope that He would redeem Israel .

4. Some of our women went to the tomb but His body was not there.

5. They met angels who told them that Jesus was alive.

6. The men went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said.

III. Three actions that caused them to have hope.

A. Jesus taught them the scriptures. verse 27

B. They invited Jesus into their home. verse 29

C. When they understood who Jesus was, their eyes were opened. verse31

IV. These are the results of their regained hope.

A. Their hearts burned within them. verse 32

B. They ran to the apostles immediately and told them that Jesus has risen. verse 33-35

C. They knew Him after He had eaten and had shown them the holes in His hands.

V. These are the ways our hope can be strengthened.

A. We can study the scriptures.

B. We can allow Him to be in charge of our lives.

C. WE can open our eyes to His power in this life and in the future.
