THE FACE OF AN ANGEL

Acts 6

I. Stephen was the transition in the book of Acts.

A. Peter was the key figure in chapters 1-5.

B. Paul was the key figure in chapters 9-28.

C. Chapters 6-8 cover the life, ministry and death of the man whom Jesus stood for.

II. What traits describe Stephen's character? Acts 6:3-8

A. He was full of faith and the Holy Spirit.

B. He was full of grace and power.

C. He performed wonders and miracles.

III. How deep were Stephen's convictions?

A. The Church grew because of his great faith and miraculous works done with God's power.

B. Many of the Jews opposed his teachings. Acts 6:9-10

C. The Jews could not refute Stephen's teachings. Acts 6:11-12

D. False witnesses were the cause of his trial. Acts 6:13-14

IV. In many ways Stephen was treated as Jesus had been treated.

A. False witnesses testified against them. Acts 6:13, Mark 14:56-59

B. They were accused of blasphemy. Acts 6:14, John 10:33

C. They had the same message.

D. They both died because of their teachings.

E. Their life's work caused the church to be planted and to grow. Acts 2, Acts 8:1

VI. What can I learn?

A. My character should be above reproach.

B. My belief in Jesus should be obvious.

C. My face should show a love and a peace that reflects the Lord.
