JOSEPH BETRAYED

Genesis 37

  I.  Joseph's brothers hated him.  Verses 1-11

      A.  He reported their evil deeds.  Verse 2

      B.  He dreamed they would bow before him. Verses 7-9

  II. Jacob made a request.  Verse 12

      A.  Jacob sent the ten older sons to Shechem to tend his flocks.

      B.  Jacob told Joseph to go to Shechem to check on brothers and the flocks.

III. Joseph responded to Jacob.  Verses 13-17

      A.  Here am I.

      B.  He was courageous knowing the danger he was in because his brothers hated him.

      C.  He completely obeyed and went to Shechem and Dothan .

  IV. He received his brothers.  Verse 18

       A.  They plotted to kill Joseph.  Verses 18-20

       B.  Reuben planned to save him by putting him into a pit and returning later.

       C.  Judah planned to sell him as a slave.  Verses 25-28

       D.  Reuben panicked when he found Joseph gone. Verses 29-30

 V.  The brothers gave Jacob a false report.  Verses 31-33

        A.  They dipped Joseph's coat in goat's blood.

        B.  They asked Jacob if the coat belonged to Joseph.

 VI. Jacob was full of remorse.  Verses 34-36

       A.  He refused to be comforted.

       B.  He grieved for 30 years.  Genesis 42:36-38, 44:27-29

VII. Take homes

       D.  Providence of God
