LIVING ON THE EDGE
Joshua 23
I. Joshua warns Israel that living on the edge can cause reward or destruction .
II. We must always be faithful.
A. A half-hearted commitment won't do.
B. God asks for total commitment.
C. We are in constant danger of turning back.
III. We must safeguard against apostasy. verses 1-12
A. We must honor God. verse 3
B. We must obey God. verse 6
C. We must be loyal to God. verses 7-8
D. We must love God. verse 11
IV. What are the consequences of apostasy? verses 12-16
A. We will be defeated. verses 12-13
B. We will be discomforted. verses 14-15
C. We will be disgraced. verse 16
V. What have I learned?
A. Confidence comes from God and His word.
B. The only part of God's covenant that is at risk is me.
C. We are tempted by the gods of wealth, leisure, and self indulgence.
D. God motivates us with grace and fear.
E. God demands faithfulness.
